Sir Harrison Birtwistle Wins British Composer Award
Congratulations to RMCM graduate and RNCM Fellow Sir Harrison Birtwistle on winning a 2014 British Composer Award for Songs from the same Earth.
The work was nominated in the Vocal category alongside Flodden by RNCM alumna Sally Beamish and Totentanz by Thomas Adès. Sir Harrison was also nominated in the Choral category for his Moth Requiem.
The RNCM had a strong presence at this year’s Awards, with RMCM alumnus and RNCM Fellow John McCabe and current postgraduate Lucy Pankhurst also receiving nominations.

The British Composer Awards were presented by BASCA and sponsored by PRS for Music. Radio 3’s Hear and Now will broadcast the Awards at 10pm on Saturday 6 December.
